On the afternoon of November 21, 2024, the College of Educational Information Technology held the second session of the “Development Salon” in Meeting Room 306. Attendees included Party Secretary Hongquan Zhao, Dean Qingchao Ke, Deputy Party Secretary Juan Xiang, Vice Deans Pengze Wu and Jing Liu, Labor Union Chair Jianqin Li, department heads, counselors, and faculty representatives.
Deputy Secretary Xiang delivered an employment report for the Class of 2024, presenting employment trends from the past five years, an overview of current employment outcomes, and the College’s projected goals. Based on empirical data, she provided a detailed analysis of the College’s advantages and existing challenges.
She outlined key strategies to address employment challenges: optimizing program structures to enhance talent cultivation quality;strengthening student guidance on employment mindset and expectations;providing clearer career planning support based on labor market trends;establishing a mechanism of full participation to support high-quality employment and leveraging alumni networks to expand employment channels and platforms.
A discussion followed, focusing on optimizing academic programs, improving talent cultivation, enhancing faculty engagement in employment support, and strengthening “industry outreach” to broaden students’ career pathways.
Professor Xinhua Zhang initiated the discussion by sharing insights based on her teaching experience. Participants contributed perspectives from their respective roles, engaging in open and in-depth dialogue.
Dean Ke then held a comprehensive discussion with attendees, emphasizing that addressing employment challenges in the digital era requires an accurate understanding of societal demand for talent and adjusting enrollment accordingly. He highlighted the importance of aligning programs with employment needs, increasing the technical and practical components of courses, and strengthening students’ professional competencies. He also stressed that employment issues must be addressed holistically, involving cooperation among faculty, the College, and industry partners.
Party Secretary Zhao delivered concluding remarks, noting that solving employment challenges requires both immediate action and long-term planning. He emphasized three key points: enhancing the fundamental quality of talent cultivation, ensuring that innovative ideas are thoroughly implemented, and strengthening internal communication and collaboration. He affirmed the significance of the salon and encouraged broader participation in future sessions.
